The Hoogland Center for the Arts and 91.9 WUIS, in association with Gordon Productions, presented a recreation of Orson Welles infamous radio broadcast of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS on Thursday, October 30th, the actual 70th anniversary of the night that the Mercury Theatre radio group panicked America.

Taking a cue from the classic dramas of radio’s golden age, the show was presented live on stage, as if it were an actual 1930's radio show. The actors were dressed in 1930's era costumes, reading from scripts, while sound men provided all of the appropriate sound effects.

The show featured Kevin Purcell reading the Orson Welles role, along with Don Schneider, Pat Foster, Dennis Rendleman, Flynn Hanners, Brett Rutherford and Steve Krampitz, along with local broadcasters Bob Murray (WTAX), Jim Leach (WMAY), Johnny Molson (ALICE 97.7/WMAY), Joe Crain (NewsChannel 20) and Dave Leonatti (WUIS).

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS - LIVE RADIO DRAMA was presented at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, on October 30, 2008 and broadcast on WUIS 91.9 FM on Friday, October 31, 2008 at 9pm.
